Frank Vogel gave the Lakers the day off after talking to David Blaine

You never know what you might get from one day to the next on the Real Lakers of Los Angeles. Just one night after Dwight Howard’s redemption arc was featured against the Charlotte Hornets, head coach Frank Vogel decided to treat his players with a day off after the team listened to a lecture from…magician David Blaine.

Yes, all of what I just said actually happened and wasn’t one of my many RLOLA plot lines left on the cutting room floor. The Lakers came in to Monday expecting to practice and listen to Blaine speak before practice, but Vogel told them not to worry about it instead.

This is one of those things that this year’s Lakers can likely get away with more than last year’s mostly inexperienced group. Considering the Lakers are a more veteran squad, there is probably less for them to pick-up about the team’s schemes or learning how to be a professional.

One player who is likely excited about the afternoon off is LeBron James, who was unexpectedly forced to evacuate his home in the wee hours of Monday morning due to fires in Los Angeles. According to reports from Lakers practice, the cancellation was done at Vogel’s discretion and did not have anything to do with the fires in the Los Angeles area.
