Frank Ocean cancels Cairo visit amid unrest

Frank Ocean has cancelled plans to visit Egypt during his world tour this month, owing to the civil unrest in the country's capital city.

While Cairo remains in a state of chaos following President Mohamed Morsi's removal from power by the country's military, at least 51 protesters have been killed in the capital and more than 400 injured in one of the most brutal episodes in Egypt's modern history. The R&B singer has since reconsidered his trip, stating on his Tumblr feed: "I really wanted to go to Cairo in between Europe and Australia … might let things settle some." Ocean went on to say he would use his time between shows to travel to South Africa to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela, "for being epic and 94".

The Grammy award-winning artist is currently recording the followup to last year's Channel Orange, and performed two new songs, Feel California and Anything for You, at his sold-out London shows this week. However, the Tumblr post went on to state that the tour wasn't to prime fans for his next album, but it was instead, "In support of some odd daydream. Ops to photograph crowds and clouds from planes. Contrast all the quiet with some noise. New noise and old noise ... sober crowd, faded crowd. All welcome."
