Frank McAvennie urges Celtic to end Shane Duffy loan and insists 'legs have gone' from defender

Frank McAvennie has urged Celtic to send Shane Duffy back to Brighton in January and reckons his 'legs have gone'.

The former Hoops striker believes the Irishman has failed at Celtic Park and the best thing to do would be to send him back down south when the window opens.

Duffy is a high-profile loan signing and is costing the club a lot of money but has had spells where he's not even made it into the first team.

A series of mistakes led to him being dropped and McAvennie believes there's no way back for him, and Celtic need to sign another defender in January.

He told Football Insider: “I think Duffy should go back in January.

“He has not hit the ground running. It is unfortunate, I was hoping for somebody to come up and lead that defence but he is doing more harm than good.

“I would send him back and get somebody else in. The club is paying good money for him. They need to go out and sign a player who can sort out that defence.

“Ajer and Jullien do not like the physical side and I think that is why they brought Duffy in but I think his legs have gone.”

Duffy has made 19 appearances for Neil Lennon's men since moving north, scoring four goals.
