Frank McAvennie says Newcastle 'fans need answers' after day one of CAT case

Frank McAvennie has taken aim at the Premier League after the Magpies were threatened with expulsion from the league as part of their PIF takeover row.

The revelation came as part of Newcastle's ongoing Competition Appeal Tribunal.

Magpies fans are now waiting for the outcome of the case after both legal teams put their case forward in court yesterday, Wednesday, September 29.

Daniel Jowell QC, the sports lawyer representing Newcastle in the case, stated that during Newcastle's struggles with the Premier League to get a takeover pushed through, top-flight officials mentioned expulsion.

Newcastle are trying to get their CAT case played out in order for the public to be able to hear evidence with the Premier League eager to push the case to January for the planned arbitration case.

The threat of expulsion was a dynamite revelation to the Magpies fanbase and McAvennie was left shocked by what he'd heard.

“It’s ridiculous they would say that," McAvennie told Football Insider.

“Why would they clamp down that hard on that? They can’t just kick clubs out of the league. They can’t do that.

“I’m sure they can threaten it but there is so much legality in kicking someone out. I don’t know if they can.

“I’m glad it sounds like this will all be done soon because the Newcastle fans need answers.

“We need to know what happened and why this has taken so long. It’s a disgrace from the Premier League.”
