Frank Leboeuf makes confident prediction on Man Utd vs Man City ahead of Carabao Cup tie

Frank Leboeuf predicts Manchester City will ease past Manchester United in their Carabao Cup semi-final - just as they emphatically beat Chelsea last Sunday.

City were at their dominant best as they won 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, with goals by Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne all but sealing the victory by half-time.

Pep Guardiola's side also boasts fearsome form in the Carabao Cup, having lifted the trophy in each of the last three seasons.

With his former club Chelsea humbled only days ago, Leboeuf expects City to have far too much quality for United to handle at Old Trafford.

"I want to see the same [City] team, because I want to see the same performance," Leboeuf - who won the League Cup in the 1997/98 season - told ESPN .

"Like that, I can level the power of Manchester United comparing to Chelsea.

"I think that City is above both teams so I want City to show to the world that they’re back to – even though it’s not the Premier League they’ll be playing in – being contenders.

"I am expecting the same type of game, same type of result, same type of performance. Therefore, the same team, the first XI.

"They do not have much choice, they’re on a good road right now and they have to keep on going if they want to go through and maybe play a final but also reassure everyone about their future."

The winner of the last-four clash will set up a final with Tottenham, who swept aside Brentford with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday night.

City can equal a long-standing record set by Liverpool between 1981 and 1984 by winning the Carabao Cup for a fourth season in a row.
