Frank Lampard verdict on Callum Hudson-Odoi Chelsea future amid Manchester United transfer links

Frank Lampard has insisted Callum Hudson-Odoi has a major role to play at Chelsea this season, despite question marks over the winger's future.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for the England-capped star, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side looking to sign a right-sided forward this summer. MEN Sport understands United have considered a move for Hudson-Odoi in the past, though the 19-year-old signed a fresh Chelsea contract a year ago.

Yet the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz, plus the presence of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and others at Stamford Bridge have cast Hudson-Odoi's future into doubt again.

Lampard believes the player can become a big part of his Chelsea squad, after Hudson-Odoi scored in their 3-3 draw at West Brom on Saturday evening.

“We are not inundated with wingers,” said Lampard. “We lost Pedro and Willian in the summer and we need competition and players because of the stress of the competitions we have to play in.

“I certainly hope Callum has a big part to play this season. If Callum comes on and makes an impact like he did against West Brom, if he keeps improving and developing every day, he is a huge talent – so let’s see.”

Jadon Sancho remains United's priority target this summer, though the club are looking at alternatives as they look to make an addition before the transfer deadline on October 5th.
