Frank Lampard told why he should take Crystal Palace manager job by former Liverpool star

Former Liverpool star John Barnes says that taking the Crystal Palace manager job would be "a good move" for Frank Lampard.

With Roy Hodgson stepping away from the club at the end of his current contract this summer, Palace have an important role to fill at the top of the first team.

A number of high-profile names have been linked with the job, such as Nuno Espirito Santo, Sean Dyche, Steve Cooper and Eddie Howe to name but a few.

For a while, Lampard himself was thought to be in pole position to take on the job at Selhurst Park, but no announcements have been made yet.

With the club coming to an important crossroads in their history, Barnes says that the role would allow Lampard to grow and rehabilitate his career after being sacked as Chelsea manager this season.

"Frank did a good job with Chelsea," Barnes told BettingOdds. "Of course in the second year, what happened, happened.

"They weren't in a disastrous position I didn't think. I didn't think Frank did a bad job, I think he could have been given time..

"Crystal Palace would be a good job for him. It's a Premier League club, good owners, good chairman, supportive, good players with what he has.

"Expectations won't grow to be 'top four', but if Palace get mid-table for him to rehabilitate his career, a top six club isn't going to come for him now, so I think it'll be a good move for him.

"They have the type of football he wants to play, so I think it'll be a good move, definitely."
