Frank Lampard has been advised to make Thiago Silva Chelsea's new captain after a free transfer for the experienced defender is finalised by former Brazil striker Rivaldo.
The 35-year-old played his final match for Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday's defeat in the Champions League final to Bayern Munich and the Blues are reported to be closing in on his services.
It has been suggested by the Sun that Lampard wants to make the veteran his new skipper at Stamford Bridge, taking the captaincy of Cesar Azpilicueta.
That would certainly be a bold decision by Lampard ahead of his second season in charge of Chelsea but Rivaldo believes it would be a wise move.
“I'm confident that he will do a great job there. He is a great centre back with excellent positioning and vast experience of world football," he told the Daily Star via Betfair.
“I think he still comes with plenty to offer. I'd back him to produce good football in the Premier League. And he should be a commanding voice in Frank Lampard's otherwise young squad.
“Nowadays, many players extend their careers until their late-thirties and Silva is a good example of that, as I was in my time.
“If you keep yourself in good physical condition you can easily play at the highest level until 36-37-years-old.”
Silva is reportedly set to sign a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge, where he'll become the latest addition to Lampard's new-look Chelsea side ahead of the new season.
