Peter Crouch has explained where he sees Timo Werner's best position on the pitch, amid speculation linking the RB Leipzig striker with a move to Chelsea.
The Blues have dominated all the recent speculation over the past week.
In addition to a £53m move for Werner, they are also said to be targeting the foward's German international teammate Kai Havertz who has shone for Bayer Leverkusen this season.
However, it's safe to say one deal is much more further along than the other.
Werner had been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, but football.london reported last week that the west London outfit are in pole position to close a deal and that position has not altered.
Whilst fans wait for official confirmation of the transfer, Blues head Frank Lampard has already been told how he could get the best from the German.
"I think [Werner] can play off Tammy Abraham, I think he’s got that much ability," Crouch said on talkSPORT radio.
"Obviously he can play through the middle but he definitely can play on the wings as well so I don’t think it will affect [Abraham] too much.
"I think Tammy’s done enough to warrant his choice as No 1 striker at the minute and I think they’ll complement each other if anything."
Interestingly, Werner's previous admission about his ability to create chances would back up Crouch's claim that he and Abraham could prove to be a deadly partnership in the Premier League next season.
"I think that assists are one of my strengths, Werner told Bundesliga.com last year. "You're always defined as a striker by how many goals you score, but now I play a new position under the new coach [Julian Nagelsmann].
"I'm playing almost as an attacking midfielder, which means I've got to play like the others do, like [Emil] Forsberg, [Marcel] Sabitzer, [Christopher] Nkunku, and get assists.
"Naturally, I've got to always link it all together. We've got to get beyond this image of me being the team's goalscorer. I want to support my teammates instead.
"It's working well, especially when we play well together.
"The lads know that when they set me up, I'll happily return the favour. It's worked really well in the first games of the season."
