Former Bayer Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz has told Frank Lampard that Hakim Ziyech's position is the reason behind Kai Havertz' struggles.
The Blues splashed around £71m to land the Germany international in the summer transfer window, winning the race for one of the most coveted young players in European football.
However, Havertz' influence in England has been limited thus far to just a single Premier League goal and two assists in 15 appearances.
Questions have orientated about how to get the best out of Havertz and Lampard has been issued with advice by the midfielder's former manager.
"Havertz's greatest quality lies in the opponent's box. There he has to come to score goals," he told VL.
"At Chelsea, he now also plays further back, because Hakim Ziyech pushes him away. Then Havertz does not get enough into the penalty area."
Bosz went on to explain how he got the best out of Havertz by giving him a free-role on the right-hand side and reducing the need for his defensive involvement.
"We actually played 3-4-3 offensively with two 10s and a square in midfield. Against the ball I let Havertz swerve to the right. Against the ball is not his greatest quality, but opponents did not dare to let him stand.
"If his direct opponent comes on, their central defender comes in a one-on-one with Havertz when they lose the ball. Often these are not the fastest players. So that emerging back is automatically recalled."
