Frank Lampard to Chelsea: Derby County keen to have new manager in place for US Bristol City friendly

Derby County are keen to have a new manager in place for their US trip to Florida.

Manager Frank Lampard is set to leave the Rams to join Chelsea, and has been excused from a return to pre-season training.

It has thrown a massive spanner in the works ahead of their overseas training camp, which they fly out for later this week.

On the trip to Florida, they face a game against Bristol City , in a friendly that could well give an interesting insight into how both Championship clubs are shaping up ahead of the new campaign.

Yet, whilst the Robins are enjoying a prosperous summer, having signed the likes of Jay Dasilva and Tomas Kalas, the Rams will soon be on the lookout for a new manager.

Phillip Cocu is currently favourite to replace Lampard and, speaking to Derbyshire Live, chairman Mel Morris says he wants the right person in charge.

He said: "Picking the right person is the most important thing.

"Of course, the more time we can afford them to be in the seat in time for Florida, the better but I would certainly not just want to rush an appointment just to have someone in the seat for the trip. It has got to fit."
