Chelsea have been handed another injury set-back after Reece James withdrew from international duty.
The right-back had linked up with the England U21s ahead of their matches with Kosovo and Austria.
The 20-year-old suffered an injury in training and has been pulled out of the squad, being replaced by former Blues Academy player Tariq Lamptey.
Chelsea take on Brighton & Hove Albion on September 14 in their opening Premier League game of the campaign, and Frank Lampard's pre-season plans have not been ideal.
The first team were back in training last week, however several players have not been available due to COVID-19 self isolation and injuries.
Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori are just a few who have not been at Cobham for the early sessions.
They were also not available for Chelsea's first pre-season game, with the Blues drawing 1-1 with at Brighton.
The Blues suffered another set-back in that match, with Hakim Ziyech going off injured with a 'small twist', in his knee.
And now with the international games, Lampard does not have his full contingency of players to work with.
James is not expected to be out with a long-term issue, but it is another worry for Lampard ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
But Lampard is only expected to have his full team in the week building up to the opening game.
