Frank Lampard spotted at Stamford Bridge amid Todd Boehly plan to appoint next Chelsea manager

Frank Lampard has been spotted in attendance at Stamford Bridge watching Chelsea lock horns with Liverpool. The 44-year-old was appointed Blues boss in July 2019 after the club were handed a transfer ban.

During his reign, Lampard integrated Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Reece James into the first-team as he looked to establish a clearer pathway from the academy. Despite his fantastic work in the early stages of his tenure, the former England international began to struggle – he was later replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who won the Champions league after just six months on the job.

After a break from the sidelines, Lampard was appointed Everton manager in January 2022 before getting the sack a year later. Coincidentally or not, Chelsea's all-time top goal scorer has been spotted back in west London amid the club's search for a new boss.

Lampard has not been linked with returning to the dugout at Stamford Bridge, though his appearance is certainly food for thought. According to Mario Melchiot, it is certainly a possibility – speaking to talkSPORT, the former Chelsea defender insisted that the former England international has what it takes to come back stronger.

"If you look at a player like Frank, he didn’t achieve the glory that he had by going down after a disappointment," Melchiot said. "So why would I expect him to not come back? He has the ability, the quality and the confidence to get himself back on the road.

"He just needs to take a break, spend some time with his family and get his head around it – just like you do as a footballer when you are down. And then he comes back and goes again at it! Things don’t come your way the easy way, and there are always going to be bumps in the way. You just have to overcome them."

For now, the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Roberto De Zerbi have been heavily linked with replacing Potter at Chelsea. But Gary Neville believes that Boehly should appoint Mauricio Pochettino.

Speaking on Sky Sports, as quoted by the Express, the former Manchester United defender said: "Everything Chelsea is saying and Boehly is saying is that they have spent £600million and they have done their spending apart from a centre-forward for the next three years.

"If they sign [Zinedine] Zidane, [Diego] Simeone, Enrique, they are going to want another £300m because they won't like some of the players they have signed. They have got to appoint a manager that is going to inherit and like the squad they have already got. I think that man, because a lot of them are young, is Pochettino."
