Frank Lampard sets challenge to Chelsea youngsters after five-goal Wolves rout

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has urged his young stars to 'keep getting better' after they thrashed Wolves 5-2 on Saturday.

Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick - as well as an own goal - with Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori completing the rout.

The stats around Chelsea's fledgling season make interesting reading. Abraham - the Premier League's top scorer alongside Sergio Aguero - has now scored at least two goals for the last three games in succession.

And he is only the third player to do so after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2006 and Delle Alli in 2017.

Abraham is also the youngest Chelsea player to score a Premier League hat-trick, the youngest Englishman to do so since Raheem Sterling in 2015 - and the first to score a treble and an own goal in the same game.

Lampard has had to show faith in Chelsea's youngsters due to the club serving a transfer ban, and the manager has been rewarded with the performances of Abraham, Mount and Tomori, who are all 21 or under.

After starting the season with a 4-0 defeat away to Manchester United , Chelsea are now up to sixth place in the Premier League.

The Stamford Bridge club are also benefiting from Abraham's loan spell at Aston Villa last season, when he scored 25 goals.

And Lampard told Sky Sports : "I'm delighted to see [youngsters taking their chances] because it's not easy.

"Tammy is [looking the part] and that's work, having gone out on loan and scoring a lot of goals in the Championship, having a year in the Premier League and now I think he feels the responsibility of the Chelsea shirt as he should.

"The last three games speak for themselves.

"The only challenge for Tammy now is can he keep doing it?

"Can he get better and better because the way he's playing, he's a huge threat for us up front and there is competition within from [Olivier] Giroud and [Michy] Batshuayi so he needs to keep it at that level and get even better."

Lampard also praised Tomori, who played under Lampard at Derby County last season, saying: "Tomori had a great season in the Championship last year but this is a step up and he has absolutely taken to it and got an incredible goal today, which will be a huge memory for him going forward.

"It's time, the youngsters deserved their chances and they need to keep improving."
