Frank Lampard sends message to Liverpool after Premier League title win

Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions after Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge - and Frank Lampard sent the Reds a message of congratulations at full-time.

The Blues boss was an adversary of Liverpool during his time as a player but helped the Reds on the night, getting them a result that confirmed the Premier League title.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Lampard said: "We need to congratulate Liverpool.

"I don't think this game decided the title - that was decided a long time ago by Liverpool's consistency and wins.

"Fair play to them, give them full credit. They deserve to win it.

"Great players and great manager and I know how much hard work goes into winning a title.

"They will [be a force in the years to come].

"That is the Premier League.

"For the last three seasons, they and City have been out on their own pretty much and for us, that is a gap that we have to try and bridge.

"But again, credit to Liverpool for what they have done."

Lampard was keen to stress that he wants his team to match Liverpool and Manchester City in the future, but accepted that the gap is significant at the moment.

But for Liverpool, their title drought is over.
