Frank Lampard has sent an emotional message to Derby County after his departure after just one season was confirmed.
The former England international has officially been confirmed as the new Chelsea boss, returning to the club where he enjoyed a glittering career as a player.
The announcement came as no surprise with a Stamford Bridge return on the cards since Maurizio Sarri departed for Juventus .
Lampard, who guided the Rams to sixth in the Championship table and suffered a play-off final defeat against Aston Villa, has now taken to Instagram with a message to the club who gave him his first managerial job.
Posting a picture of him under the Pride Park floodlights, Lampard wrote: "I would like to say a special thank you to Mel Morris, players, staff and everyone who is associated with Derby County Football Club.
"It has been a fantastic experience for me and I feel privileged to have managed such a prestigious club.
"Most of all, I want to thank the fans who supported me and the team from the day I arrived in the City.
"I wish everyone the best of luck going forward."
Lampard has penned a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge following lengthy negotiations.
He said: “I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach.
"Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared, however, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing for the season ahead.
"I am here to work hard, bring further success to the club and I cannot wait to get started."
