Frank Lampard's perfect Chelsea XI from opening pre-season match vs Bohemians

Chelsea got their pre-season under way last night with a 1-1 draw against Bohemians in Dalymount Park.

It was the first time that Frank Lampard got the chance to check out his Blues players this summer, with two completely different XIs playing for 45 minutes each.

Of course that meant there was a bit of a disjointed nature to the match, with neither side having a wealth of chances and some players maybe in a position that was not so natural for them.

The result would not have mattered at all for Lampard in the end, even though he might have been slightly disappointed at conceding a late goal to the Irish side.

There was a very set formation from Lampard and was a clear indication of the way that he will likely set his team up for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign.

It was very much a 4-2-3-1 by Lampard, with the two central midfieleders quite narrow, and the number ten adding some support to the front man.

However, there was some fluidity to the midfield, with the three sometimes rotating, especially in the second half of the game as Billy Gilmour dropped into the middle.

The full-backs were often high up the pitch when the Blues had the ball, meaning that at times there were gaps behind when they were getting caught on the break.

It was a real mix of youth and experience throughout the evening, with seven teenagers being used, a lot of loanees and only one regular starter from last season in Cesar Azpilicueta.

But out of the 22 players that took to the field, who would have been Lampard's most impressed team throughout the game?

Willy Caballero had the most secure half in goal, while Marc Gueho looked secure in the first 45, with Kurt Zouma solid in the second 45 as captain.

Seventeen-year-old Ian Maatsen had some good moments in the second half, while Davide Zappcosta also looked quite effective.

In midfield, Lewis Baker showed some really nice touches with both feet, while Ethan Ampadu's bit of aggression in the middle of the park added some extra bite.

Behind the front man, Gilmour and Conor Gallagher impressed with some good creative play, getting involved in the match and being two of the most effective players.

Kasey Palmer also had some nice moments in the first half, with good energy as he tried to make things happen, but didn't have a great amount of luck.

And then up top, there was a lot of encouragement to see Michy Batshuayi score and also had a decent game off the ball as wel, with good runs and making space for others.

The best XI: Caballero; Maatsen, Guehi, Zouma, Zappacosta; Ampadu, Baker; Gilmour, Gallagher, Palmer; Batshuayi.

The rest: Cumming; Sterling, Azpilicueta, Chalobah, Kenedy; Bakayoko, Drinkwater; Piazon, Brown, Pedro; Ugbo.
