Frank Lampard's next job after Chelsea sack as odds slashed on rapid return

Frank Lampard could be set for a quick return to management following his Chelsea exit.

The former Blues midfielder was handed his P45 by Roman Abramovich after just 18 months at Chelsea in January following a disappointing start to the campaign despite spending more than £200million on new recruits in the summer.

But Lampard could be in line for a quick return, and that's because AFC Bournemouth have decided to part ways with Jason Tindall after less than a season.

The Cherries have a lot riding on an instant return to the Premier League having kept many of their big-earners following relegation last season.

And while they are in a good position, currently in sixth and clinging on to a playoff spot, the Cherries' defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, which left them eight points off second despite having played a game more, proved to be the last straw.

Tindall's departure was confirmed this morning and it has not taken the bookmakers long to draw up a favourite.

Former Chelsea and Derby boss Lampard is the favourite, or at least as far as Sky Bet are concerned, priced at a very slim 1/1 with odds slashed from 6/4 in the last hour or so.

That puts Lampard well ahead of Eddie Howe, who has been linked with a return to the Vitality Stadium, priced at 6/1, while former Chelsea defender John Terry is at 10/1 and Garry Monk is a longshot at 16/1.

Following his sacking from Chelsea, Lampard said: "Firstly, I would like to thank the fans for the incredible support that I have received over the last 18 months. I hope they know what that means to me.

"When I took on this role I understood the challenges that lay ahead in a difficult time for the football club.

"I am proud of the achievements that we made, and I am proud of the academy players that have made their step into the first team and performed so well.

"They are the future of the club. I am disappointed not to have had the time this season to take the club forward and bring it to the next level.

"I want to thank Mr Abramovich, the board, players, my coaching team and everyone at the club for their hard work and dedication, especially in these unprecedented and challenging times.

"I wish the team and the club every success for the future.”

It will be interesting to see whether Lampard would jump at the chance at a quick return, particularly at Championship level after stepping up to a position at the very top of the Premier League following relative success at Derby, reaching the playoff final during his time there.

Bournemouth would offer him a very good chance of taking a run at promotion, armed with a very strong squad for the Championship, and Lampard would also be able to remain down South.
