Frank Lampard's Alvaro Morata boost ahead of potentially difficult Chelsea transfer window

Nobody is quite sure how the transfer window might look for Chelsea this summer.

There is a real sense of trepidation around the Premier League as it looks to restart after the current hiatus.

However, there is no set plan right yet to when it could start or what kind of impact it might have on the transfer market.

With the coronavirus pandemic having also played havoc on the world’s financial markets, there might not be the appetite to spend big this summer.

Chelsea have, over the past few years, been more willing to spend the money that they accrue, but there will be a nice, forgotten income which the Blues might be able to spend this summer.

Alvaro Morata was bought from Real Madrid by Chelsea in the summer of 2017 for around £60million, with the hope that he could be the one to replace Diego Costa.

After a bright start, including an excellent hat-trick at Stoke City, everything went downhill somewhat and Blues supporters started to get frustrated with their record signing.

In January 2019, Morata was sent back to the Spanish capital, but this time on an 18-month loan deal at Atletico.

The La Liga club also had an obligation to buy within the deal, which means that when the transfer window eventually opens this summer he will be a permanent Atletico player.

Chelsea will get the £48.5million transfer fee for the Spain international and will be able to pump it into another potential signing.

It’s certainly good news for Frank Lampard and Roman Abramovich if the Blues want to add to their ranks ahead of the 2020/21 season and during what could be a difficult summer for buying.
