Christian Pulisic has already made a great impression on new boss Frank Lampard, despite having not even met the Chelsea head coach yet.
The 20-year-old American has not yet joined up with the Blues squad for their pre-season due to getting to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup with his country.
But despite the final only having been one week ago, the young winger is not planning on taking an extended break before being part of Lampard's squad.
Instead, Pulisic is making his own way from the USA to Japan on Tuesday to finally be part of the squad during Chelsea's second leg of their summer pre-season.
While the Blues leave London on Monday, Pulisic will be among the players who face Kawasaki Frontale and Barcelona in the Far East.
Pulisic signed for Chelsea in January for £58million, however was loaned back to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of their 2018/19 Bundesliga campaign.
Pulisic will be making his first steps in the coming weeks with the Blues, however Lampard has already been impressed with his attitude.
"Christian joins us on Tuesday when we get there. He is flying in separately as he has had short break but fair play, he wanted to get there quickly which I appreciate. N’Golo [Kante] wil be there.
"We have to step up. I enjoyed the first half but I was not so mad in the second half as we lacked energy. I understand that we are in pre-season but we have to step up.
"It is how I would have been [coming back from holiday early]. It is a huge move for him to a big club and he is a top young player who will only go one way.
"It was important we start the season as well as we can. I know we have injuries but we will need him. I have not met him, I have spoken to him, but it is a good impression."
