Frank Lampard reveals when Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner will join up with Chelsea squad

Chelsea are still awaiting the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

Both of the Blues' big summer signings officially started their contracts on July 1, 2020 after deals with Ajax and RB Leipzig were agreed ahead of the summer transfer window.

That means Ziyech and Werner are permitted to train with their new teammates at Cobham, although they can't play any part in the remainder of the season.

However, as it turns out, neither player is in a position to report to the club's training base at Cobham at the moment.

This is because they've not yet touched down in the UK, but Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has revealed when he expects to see his new signings for the first time.

"They haven't arrived. As the whole country is waiting on quarantine news we're also waiting on quarantine news, and we want to make sure the players can travel, move around and work as we'll need them to," Lampard revealed in his pre-match press conference.

"Timo Werner has only finished recently, so he's having a well-deserved break and will come back later on in July.

"Ziyech will come here earlier than that, but we need to wait on the quarantine news before we can be clearer on that."

Once Ziyech and Werner join up with the rest of the Chelsea squad, Lampard will have a training plan in place.

"Yes, that will be up to how we arrange the plan," Lampard revealed in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon. "The first issue is how we finish the season, that’s absolutely what we are focused on and my main focus.

"In terms of the two players, individually, we need to make sure they arrive with good fitness and freshness levels for next season.

"It will be a longer break than the players we already have in our squad so I will take that into account.

"When I feel it is the right time to bring them in and around the squad during this season, I can do that.

"If not, the absolute priority is making sure they are ready for the next."
