Frank Lampard responds to Jose Mourinho criticism after Manchester United thrashing

Frank Lampard insists he still has belief in his Chelsea squad following their thrashing against Manchester United in the Premier League.

United got off to the dream start in the league on Sunday afternoon as they blitzed their rivals 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the new season.

Marcus Rashford blasted in a first-half penalty while a second goal from the England international was joined by strikes from Anthony Martial and debutant Daniel James after the break.

Speaking after the game former United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho criticised the approach from Frank Lampard's side by suggesting they were unnecessarily lacking experience in their starting line-up.

The Portuguese manager even questioned the inclusion of young trio Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Andreas Christensen and wondered why N'Golo Kante and Willian were not risked despite lacking match fitness.

"A little bit of experience would fit well with the team," Mourinho said to Sky Sports.

"Look at the performance of Mason Mount, of Tammy Abraham, Christensen even, for matches of this dimension you need a little bit more."

Lampard was alerted to Mourinho's comments in his post-match press conference, and he was not happy with what the former United manager had to say.

"He didn’t like the performance of Mason Mount? Is that what he said?!" Lampard questioned.

"I can’t drag people out of the medical room to play. We were clearly the better team but we made individual errors. Not concerned about what anyone else says. I believe in this squad."
