Frank Lampard responds to FA charge and gives Richarlison update after Everton flare incident

Frank Lampard has given a brief update on his FA charge and has addressed Richarlison's situation after his goal celebration with a flare last weekend.

It was announced earlier in the week that the Everton manager had been charged by the FA in relation to comments he made following the Merseyside derby last month. In the aftermath of the game, Lampard was clearly frustrated that his side had not been awarded a penalty after Joel Matip appeared to push Anthony Gordon in he box. And he suggested that it would have been given at the other end of the pitch.

Lampard, speaking on Friday (May 6), admitted that he can't say much at this stage as he has until Monday to respond to his charge. However, he also made clear on where his intentions lie in matters such as this.

He told his pre-Leicester City press conference: "It's an emotional game, isn't it? My first job is to protect Everton Football Club for the players, for the club itself and for the fans.

"I can't talk about it. I've got to reply to the FA and at this point I can't speak more about it."

Richarlison has also been the subject of some discussion this week after his celebration following scoring the only goal against Chelseaa at Goodison Park last Sunday. The Brazil international picked up a flare that was thrown onto the pitch and threw it near the big screen between the Gwladys Street and the Main Stand, where there are no supporters seated.

However, it was also revealed earlier this week that Merseyside Police were looking into the matter. Lampard again didn't have much to say on the situation as it was a case of the club working closely with the authorities at this stage.

He added: "It's another one I can't go in to. It's being looked at by the police at the moment and we as a club are doing everything we can to communicate with them as well as we can."
