Frank Lampard reacts to Chelsea vs Manchester United Carabao Cup draw

Frank Lampard is not underestimating Manchester United despite their recent struggles, as his Chelsea side were drawn against United in the next round of the League Cup.

Lampard's men strolled beyond League Two outfit Grimsby Town 7-1 on a night when several young players came to the fore, though a novice United side had a rather more difficult night

And after United eventually overcame their stubborn visitors at Old Trafford via a penalty shoot-out, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team were dealt a rematch with their opponents from the opening day of the season.

Lampard, however, is wary of United's threat after that 4-0 result in the Premier League — though the task will be tougher for opposite number Solskjaer with the Carabao Cup fourth round tie to be played at Stamford Bridge and the Blues' improved form of late.

“I was just watching the penalties," Lampard told Sky Sports after the draw was made immediately after the third round fixtures had been completed.

"It’s a big draw, two big teams and I’m pleased we’re at home. We’ll see.

“I think a lot can happen in football in a short time. The next round is not coming tomorrow. We have to respect the fact they have good players.

“They beat us 4-0... so I’m certainly not going to stand here and talk Man United down.

“It’s going to be a tough game, and the beauty of what we did on Wednesday night was make the game look pretty easy.

“But these games can be tough and I’d rather, from a distance and having not watched the game, give Rochdale credit for taking them all the way. Man United will bring a strong team here.”

The fourth round draw also saw holders Manchester City pitted against Southampton, while Liverpool and Arsenal will face off in another eye-catching tie.
