Frank Lampard provides Chelsea fitness update ahead of Norwich as the Blues suffer injury blow

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that midfielder N'Golo Kante has picked up an ankle injury which may keep him out of the weekend's trip to Carrow Road.

The Frenchman struggled throughout pre-season with an injury that he sustained at the end of last season, but had recovered to play a part in every Chelsea game so far this campaign.

However, speaking in his pre-match press conference, Blue boss Lampard has confirmed that Kante is a major doubt for this weekend's game.

“Kante has got an injury (ankle sprain) he has carried all week, so we'll assess that over the next 24 hours over whether he is," he said when offering a fitness update on his squad.

"Rudiger's not fit yet, hopefully for next week. That's the only changes from where we were last week."

When asked if he would put a bet on Kante being fit for the encounter with the Canaries, Lampard was non-committal.

“I’m not a betting man...” was his response.

One player who was spotted as not being part of the open training session held at Stamford Bridge during the week was Pedro, but there is more positive news on the Spanish winger.

"Because we had as we know a busy week and three games of which Pedro contributed a lot physically, he had a couple of small aches," Lampard added.

"Nothing really, but it was a precaution to take him out of training for a couple of days. However, he's trained the last two days."
