Frank Lampard picks out two Chelsea players who impressed him most in Super Cup

Chelsea put in an encouraging performance in the UEFA Super Cup despite being beaten on penalties by Liverpool .

The Blues fell agonisingly short of adding some silverware in just their second competitive game under the guidance of club legend Frank Lampard.

The new manager was impressed with what he saw from his side and declared himself "proud" of his players after a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes of action in humid Istanbul conditions.

But he singled out midfielder Jorginho, who scored the equalising penalty in extra-time, and full-back Emerson for praise after their performances.

New signing Christian Pulisic and combative midfielder N'Golo Kante also impressed, but it was the pair of Brazilian-Italians who impressed Lampard most .

Asked to pick out the standout performer, Lampard replied: "Well one of my players obviously.

"It’s a difficult one I think. I loved the performance of Jorginho for us and I loved the performance of Emerson, I thought they were both fantastic.

"And when you think of 120 minutes for two players who played on Sunday evening, so Liverpool were fresher than us, I thought they were leaders in the team.

"But I liked the performance of all of my players. Not one player was below par today. Everyone gave everything, the subs made an impact. So all, all of them."

Lampard has experienced a tough start to management, with his side being beaten 4-0 at Manchester United in their Premier League opener just three days before their Istanbul frustration.

They will be back in Premier League action against Leicester in their home opener on Sunday.
