Frank Lampard names the one player who impressed in Champions League defeat vs Bayern Munich

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has named midfielder Mateo Kovacic as the one player who performed well for the Blues in the 3-0 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

Second half goals from former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry and Polish striker Robert Lewandowski were enough to give the German side a comfortable cushion to go into the second leg with.

The Blues travel to the Allianz Arena in just over three weeks time and have a uphill battle if they wish to make it to the quarter finals of the competition.

Things got even worse for Chelsea, with Jorginho being shown a yellow, meaning he is suspended and later Marcos Alonso was shown a straight red card meaning he too will have to sit out the second leg.

After the match, Lampard said that the attitude of his players will be key for the second leg, and picked out Kovacic for his performance.

"When you have an eye opener like tonight, the only answer young or old is to look at it and go ‘I’m not going to look at any part of it apart from myself. Who was I against, who was my direct competitor, how did I play against them?" He said in his post match press conference .

"I think there were a couple of performances in our team, namely  Kovacic  that played with a personality and a quality that makes you go ‘OK, he can play in virtually any team at that level’.

"Other than that we need to say tonight wasn’t a night where we showed that. That’s just an individual taking responsibility?"

Kovacic has become a key part of Lampard's team this season playing a part in 34 games in all competitions.
