Frank Lampard names the Man City player Callum Hudson-Odoi must follow to be the 'absolute best'

Frank Lampard has called on Callum Hudson-Odoi to follow the example of Raheem Sterling is he wants to be the 'absolute best' player that he can be.

Hudson-Odoi may have signed a new five-year, multi-million pound deal with the Blues, however at 18 he is still at the start of his career and is yet to score a Premier League goal.

Sterling was in a similar position during his career, rising through the ranks at Liverpool before joining Manchester City in a big-money move when just 20.

Four years later and the winger is now one of the top players in the Premier League, being revered by supporters and pundits for the way that he has developed since.

After starring and scoring in the 7-1 win over Grimsby Town on Wednesday night, Lampard was quite tough on his young winger after the game and stated that he wasn't happy with his first half performance.

And Lampard has reiterated that point, making it clear that he is keen for Hudson-Odoi to be the very best player he can be.

"Yeah, and I think that was how I see it and I have to say it as I see it," Lampard said.

"I know Callum's talent and he has got huge talent. Hence why the club were so keen to get him signed up and we're all delighted with that as a club.

"But there's a lot of work for Callum to do. Lots of work. I think you can look around and look at fantastic examples and not even at this club.

"I don't like to talk about other club's players but Raheem Sterling is an incredible example of a player with great talent whose work ethic added to that talent and improvement in a short period of time through absolute dedication and a complete player that we are all wowed by.

"It's exactly the great model for Callum, because he has those talents.

"I want him to be the best, the absolute best, because he has the potential to do that and a lot of that or some of that is some hard truths and I saw some hard truths in the game the other day and ways that he can improve and he needs to listen to them and he will.

"And then he can be that player for us, which is great news for everybody."
