Frank Lampard has described Willian as the "best player" for Chelsea in recent weeks after the Blues' win against Southampton this afternoon (Sunday).
The Blues recorded a 4-1 win at St Mary's, with Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi on target for Chelsea, as they moved up to fifth place in the Premier League.
But it was one player who didn't get on the scoresheet who was singled out by Lampard as an example to others on the pitch in recent weeks.
"The balance at the moment is good and that needs to stay and improve. And that comes down to those boys," he said.
"A lot of them are mates because they came through together. For me it’s great in my position because young players, when they have got the attitude they have got, it’s great to coach because they want to improve all the time.
"But the experienced players they have got around them - and Willian was the stand out one today. His work ethic when he was off the ball was almost like, if you talk to wingers and tell them what you want from them, we could show them that video of Willian today.
"His quality and bursts of pace on the ball, he has been our best player in the last five games. And it’s a great thing to say when you have players on the pitch like that who are an example to those around them."
The 31-year-old was the matchwinner for Chelsea in the Champions League in midweek, with Willian netting the goal that clinched all three points in France against Lille.
That was his second goal in nine appearances for the Blues in all competitions this season.
