Frank Lampard moves one step closer to management return after leaving Chelsea

Frank Lampard is "likely to be interviewed" for the vacant West Bromwich Albion job, four months after leaving Chelsea.

Lampard was sacked as Blues boss in January following some concerning form in the Premier League and was replaced by Thomas Tuchel almost immediately after.

The Chelsea icon had been linked with the Crystal Palace job following Roy Hodgson's departure, but now, according to The Sun, West Brom are keen on the ex-Blues manager.

Lampard is "on the club's shortlist", alongside Chris Wilder, it has been claimed, with both set to be interviewed for the role that was left vacant following Sam Allardyce's exit.

Allardyce announced he would be leaving the Baggies after failing to keep them in the Premier League, having taking over from Slaven Bilic earlier in the season.

Lampard is one of the names being considered to take the Midlands-based club back to the top-flight, with the former midfielder having previous experience in the Championship.

The 42-year-old managed Derby County, where he guided the Rams into the play-off final - before losing to Aston Villa - in his debut season as manager.

Lampard then moved to his beloved Chelsea, but lasted just 18 months before Tuchel was called upon to replace him.

Speaking about his future recently, Lampard insisted he was not rushing a decision and is waiting for the right job role to come around.

He said: “I am not rushing into anything, but if the opportunity arises and it is the right one, then I want to work again.

“I love working in management more than I thought I would.”
