Frank Lampard makes Tammy Abraham vow after two more Chelsea goals

Frank Lampard claimed Tammy Abraham will only get better after the England striker scored twice on his first start at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, has now scored 30 league goals since the start of last season – more than any other English player in the top two tiers.

His double against Sheffield United followed a brace at Norwich.

Lampard said: “Delighted with Tammy, delighted with his attitude. He has a desire to score and it’s his all-round game as well.

“We are working closely with Tammy on little bits of his game where he can be even better. He is very receptive to that and was unlucky not to have three.”

Abraham, 21, won two England caps in 2017, but has not been named in Gareth Southgate’s latest squad.

“I would have loved it for him but, at the same time, if he can take a bit of a breather, we can get some work into him, because it is a constant and England will come calling.”

Chelsea blew the two-goal lead against Sheffield United, succumbing to a late Kurt Zouma own goal as the two sides shared the points.

Lampard was asked if game-management problems were inevitable with such a young squad.

“I don’t know about inevitable because I don’t want to say that but we are obviously having those issues,” he said. “It is not just the young players – it is up to all of us to resolve the issue.”
