Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has opened up on his team selections for the Champions League group stage tie at home to Valencia this evening.
Lampard has chosen to again back striker Tammy Abraham from the start after a fantastic beginning to the 2019/20 campaign for the 21-year-old.
Backed into a corner due to a transfer ban, Lampard has been forced in many ways to allow the forward to take the lead up front for the Blues. It has led to brilliant results thanks to a start to the season which has seen Abraham bag seven goals in just five Premier League matches.
Whilst Lampard acknowledges that there is competition in the attacking ranks, he has explained why he couldn't leave Abraham out of the line up.
"Firstly with Tammy. He is scoring goals and playing well. We have competition up front but he is confident right now," Lampard told BT Sport.
Meanwhile, Lampard has also explained the reasoning behind a 3-4-3 formation for the game, with the Chelsea boss insisting that the Blues will change things up throughout the contest.
"In terms of formations, I want to be adaptable. It doesn't mean it's the way we are always going to be. We changed it up during the game at the weekend as well," Lampard added.
