Frank Lampard admits that he can see elements of Mason Mount in himself from his younger days as a player.
Former Chelsea boss Lampard championed Mount at both Derby and then at Stamford Bridge and it is no surprise to him to see the England midfielder fulfilling his potential.
But Lampard always maximised his potential, worked tirelessly at his game and does see Mount working equally hard at his game.
“I was asked that a bit when I was working with him and I didn't see the comparison so much because I saw a different player but Mason his attributes are slightly different, things he does on the pitch are slightly different,” said Lampard.
“But now I've come out of it and I actually look back and I'm talking to you now about his attitude I definitely see the comparisons and will happily say them, because that was me: I hated being dropped, I just wanted to play, just wanted to improve, everyday was an opportunity to train at a higher level, to train at full pace.
“We could put on a passing drill for Mason and he’d be the best passer, you go straight into possession and he’d be the one making the possession work, he’d be the one getting after the ball injecting energy.
“Not to say that I did that everyday for 20 years but I know that was my aim to do that because I always thought the reflection of that will be what you get on the pitch and I see that.
“I was just delighted if there's my input into him it’s the fact that Mason Mount would have become a top player anyway.”
