Frank Lampard makes 2020 vow to Chelsea fans ahead of FA Cup tie with Nottingham Forest

Frank Lampard has urged his Chelsea side to find consistency in 2020 after a mixed end to the last calendar year.

The Blues finished 2019 with a 1-1 draw to Brighton & Hove Albion, ending a busy period that saw them beat Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal away from home.

But it was their Stamford Bridge form that was the most frustrating, with the Blues losing to West Ham, Bournemouth and Southampton towards the end of the year.

Chelsea start 2020 with a third round FA Cup tie with Nottingham Forest, who currently sit fourth in the Championship after three wins on the bounce.

It means the tie will be a tricky one for a team struggling in front of their own fans, and the Blues boss is keen for them to put that right.

"It comes after a busy Christmas period in the Premier League, which reflected our overall season in many ways," Lampard said in the pre-match programme.

"Of the four matches, we had two very good performances against our London rivals, Tottenham and Arsenal, which I know the fans enjoyed.

"On the flip side, Southampton was obviously disappointing - another game where we were shut out at home, which is something we need to improve in the New Year.

"Then Brighton away was a frustrating draw for us, and a match we should nave won from the position we were in.

"It is all part of the process, but that doesn't make it any easier to take and we need to keep working to make sure we get to where we want to be.

"We are looking for consistency because we want to be successful, but we come into the New Year in the top four and, considering all the questions that were asked of us back in the summer, I think we can be relatively happy.

"However, we must want more."
