Frank Lampard looking to extend phenomenal record vs Newcastle in first game as Everton manager

Frank Lampard will be keen to continue an impressive streak against Newcastle in his first game as Everton manager.

The Toffees used the two-week hiatus in the Premier League season to appoint one of the competition’s greatest ever players following the sacking of Rafa Benitez.

The former Magpies boss had Everton sitting anxiously above the drop zone, forcing owner Farhad Moshiri to pull the trigger on the Spaniard after just six months at the helm.

His replacement takes charge for the first time on February 8 as Lampard travels to St James’ Park for a crucial six-pointer at the bottom of the table.

Victory for Newcastle will see them move to within a point of their opponents - putting immense pressure on Lampard and confirming their status as relegation candidates.

However, a win for the Toffees cools the temperature around Goodison Park as they look to salvage the remains of a disastrous season on Merseyside.

The bad news for Toon fans ahead of next Tuesday’s fixture is the outstanding record that Lampard boasts against the Magpies.

As a player at West Ham, Chelsea and Man City, the former midfielder lined up against Newcastle 34 times: winning 20, drawing six and losing just eight.

A prolific goalscorer, Lampard netted eight past Newcastle throughout his career - the first of which stretches back to January 2000, when the Hammers scored twice in the last five minutes to snatch a point at St James’ Park.

The Chelsea legend has won one and lost one against Newcastle as a manager.
