Frank Lampard issues Ruben Loftus-Cheek injury update that Chelsea supporters will love

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is making progress as the Chelsea midfielder steps up his rehabilitation.

The midfielder suffered an Achilles injury during an end of season friendly prior to the Europa League final against Arsenal back in May and isn't expected back in full training for at least month.

But there's been some positive news in regards to his progress of late.

Firstly, Jorginho uploaded an image of Loftus-Cheek in the swimming pool to his official Instagram with the caption which reads: "Come on Papaiiii" with five muscle emojis.

Then the talented midfielder posted a video of himself to Twitter of him on a gym bike.

The caption reads: "Getting that work in."

And now the latest is that Loftus-Cheek has now begun jogging outside, although Lampard hasn't yet put a time frame on the midfielder's return to first-team action.

"Ruben we can't give a date but he is outside jogging slowly," Lampard confirmed in his pre-match press conference.

"That is a positive move for this week, good to see him outside and we will see how that goes over the next weeks."

Having Loftus-Cheek available for the second half of the season will certainly boost Lampard's midfield options as he looks to ensure the Blues don't drop out of the top four.

Some supporters believe the 23-year-old will be hot on the heels of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley for a place in the  Blues' strongest XI once fully fit.

What is for sure is he will be at Chelsea in the long-term having signed a contract extension in the summer and the midfielder is looking to achieving success at the club.

"I'm really happy and pleased that I get to stay here for another five years. It's the place where I've grown up playing and hopefully I'll be playing here for a lot longer," he told Chelseafc.com

"At eight or nine years old, of course you never think you'll be here for so long because you just want to enjoy yourself and play with your friends.

"When I look back and see how the hard work has paid off, it's a good feeling. That only makes me want to work harder to achieve more in the future.

'I hope to win a lot more trophies with the team and personally it’s just about trying to do as well as I can and work hard to be a key player for Chelsea."
