Frank Lampard issues response to Chelsea fans after boos heard during victory at Bournemouth

Chelsea caretaker-manager Frank Lampard has issued a response to fans that booed some of his substitutions and aimed chants towards co-owner Todd Boehly. The Blues finally picked up their first three points under Lampard as they beat Bournemouth 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

An early goal from Conor Gallagher put the visitors ahead before Matias Vina equalised for the Cherries just 10 minutes later. Chelsea controlled large periods of the game with Lampard opting to bring fresh legs off the bench in Raheem Sterling and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the 63rd minute.

The Blues' supporters booed this decision as Mykhailo Mudryk and N'Golo Kante were replaced before aiming chants in the direction of Boehly. The American co-owner has spent over £600million on new signings this season but Chelsea remain sat in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Lampard's substitutions did pay off in the end with Benoit Badiashile - who was one of five changes to the starting line-up - scoring in the 82nd minute from Hakim Ziyech's free-kick, before Sterling set up Joao Felix to seal the victory for the Blues.

When asked about the fans booing his substitutions and chanting towards Boehly, Lampard responded: "Our fans were fantastic today. I appreciate their [Chelsea fans] support. In terms of the substitutions themselves, they all made an impact.

"Ruben [Loftus-Cheek] came on a bit earlier, Raheem [Sterling] as well. Ruben came on and gave us calmness on the ball.

"The fans have had lots of success [in the past] - it's what they're used to. They will stick with the club, they're a fantastic group of fans."

Lampard was forced into one change that saw Ben Chilwell replaced by Cesar Azpilicueta, after the England international suffered a hamstring injury that could end his season early. The Chelsea caretaker boss offered a worrying update on Chilwell after the win after already losing Fofana to a similar issue prior to the game.

Speaking to the media after the win, Lampard said: "[It's Chilwell's] Hamstring. We don't know [if it's serious], but with a hamstring at this point of the season, it's a worry for the remaining games.

"Fofana had a bit of an issue with his hamstring, yesterday travelling down, so it's more of a precaution on that one," he added. "Other than that, we’ve got a squad, so the players who come in have got to show what they can do."
