Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed that Hakim Ziyech has returned to full training ahead of the clash against Manchester City, but Reece James will miss the game.
The Morocco international has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury during Chelsea's 3-1 win over Leeds United last month.
Originally, it was hoped that the former Ajax playmaker would return for the Boxing Day clash with Arsenal, though that date proved to be too soon. He also missed the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa 48 hours later.
However, Lampard has now revealed that the midfielder could make a return to action against Manchester City on Sunday.
"He's trained the last two or three days," Lampard said in his pre-match press conference.
But there was not such good news on James, with the right-back ruled out of the clash at Stamford Bridge.
"Reece James is out with a small hamstring problem," Lampard confirmed.
Chelsea will be looking to continue their good record against City in west London, after beating Pep Guardiola's side at home last season after the post-lockdown restart.
And Lampard is hoping for more of the same from his side on Sunday.
"I am confident in us as a team. I know when we play at Stamford Bridge then we can beat anybody," he added.
"They are such a good possession based team and I know we will have to be at our best to win.
"Arsenal was our worst performance of the season and we have to accept that sometimes that can happen.
"Villa had more energy, we had opportunities and should have won the game. We need to be quick and disciplined against City. I want to see a lot of speed in our game when we attack."
