Frank Lampard is hopeful Mason Mount's ankle injury is a 'minor' one after the Chelsea midfielder was forced off against Ajax on Tuesday.

Mount was replaced by Callum Hudson-Odoi after 60 minutes after taking a knock to his right ankle - with his side going onto fight back and rescue a 4-4 draw having trailed 3-1 at the break.

The England international has scored four times and provided two assists in a superb start to the season and Lampard hopes the 20-year-old can avoid a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"They've strapped his ankle and hopefully it's relatively minor," Lampard told reporters following the game.

Chelsea are in action at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday before the final international break of 2019.

Gareth Southgate will name his England squad for upcoming qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo on Thursday.
