Frank Lampard holds talks with Norwich as ex-Chelsea boss on three-man shortlist

Frank Lampard is in the driving seat to become the next Norwich City boss after talks were held between the two parties, it has been reported.

The former Chelsea manager is not the only one on the managerial shortlist, however, with two other candidates being eyed.

It follows the sacking of Daniel Farke, who had spent four years at Carrow Road and taken them to the Premier League twice.

His reign came to an end on Saturday, surprisingly just hours after Norwich had claimed their first victory of the season.

A 2-1 win over Brentford temporarily lifted them off the foot of the Premier League but the damage had already been done.

Massive losses to the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool had all been expected but the manner of the defeats rankled hard with the Carrow Road hierarchy.

Further losses to Leeds United, Everton and Watford were also tough to take and the club have taken action now to try and give themselves the best chance of survival.

Despite performing well in the Championship, Farke had overseen just two points taken from Norwich's last 19 top-flight matches.

Several managerial candidates have been mentioned as potential successors to Farke while Lampard appears to be the frontrunner.

According to the Guardian, Norwich have spoken to the former England international about taking over.

However, nothing has been decided yet as there are two other candidates on the three-man shortlist to be considered.

Lampard has not held a job since January 2021 when he was sacked from Chelsea after two years in charge at his beloved Blues.

The ex-Derby boss did well to take the Stamford Bridge outfit into a Champions League spot despite a transfer ban and the departure of star man Eden Hazard.

But his tenure unravelled in the second campaign when, after spending over £200m, the results failed to come.

However, Norwich represents a chance to get back into the management game with the 43-year-old still regarded as a young, bright coach.

The Guardian go on to report that he is yet to decide himself on whether the Canaries are the right project for him while other candidates are also being considered.

Though they have not been named, recently disposed manager Dean Smith is thought to be eyed by the club after he was sacked by Aston Villa on Monday.

Ralph Hassenhuttl is another who has his admirers at the Norfolk outfit but whether he would leave Southampton remains to be seen.
