Frank Lampard is looking to Thiago Silva to give Chelsea some much needed experience within the club.
The 35-year-old has joined the Blues on a free transfer having left Ligue 1 champions PSG in the summer.
The Blues had the worst defensive record inside the top ten of the Premier League last season, conceding 54 league goals in total.
Thiago Silva is the only centre-back signing which the club have made so far in the window, while the Blues did strengthen with Ben Chilwell at left-back.
With his wealth of experience at both the domestic and international level, Lampard is hoping that the Brazilian can make a real impact straight away.
And the Blues boss has already seen the leadership qualities which he will bring to his back line.
"Thiago is certainly a leader. He brings that with him by nature," Lampard said.
"He doesn’t speak the language that great, something we’re working on very quickly, but we have a lot of players in the squad who are multi-lingual and help with that.
"By presence, by attitude in training, by the quality of the player he commands respect. I look forward to having him around.
"He already seems very engaging and intent on helping the team, and that’s all you can ask for as a coach."
However, Lampard will not have the Brazilian for the Liverpool match, with the defender not quite ready for the weekend.
"Thiago's been training with us for the last three or four days, we're just working with him on his fitness for the moment, so Liverpool will come too soon for him," Lampard added.
