Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has heaped praise on Mason Mount after he starred during England's win over Croatia.
Mason Mount enjoyed a brilliant campaign for the Blues, bagging nine goals and seven assists across all competitions, including setting up the winner during last month's Champions League final.
The 22-year-old's stellar performances earned him a place in Gareth Southgate's England 2020 Euro squad and he was rewarded with a starting spot in the opening game in front of fans at Wembley.
The Three Lions got their campaign underway on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Croatia and Mount produced an eye-catching display, registering two tackles, an interception and creating a chance as well.
Lampard and Mount spent the 2018/19 season together at Derby County before enjoying 18 months together at Chelsea before Lampard was sacked as Blues boss in January and the 42-year-old heaped praise on Mount's performance.
"Mason’s performance all round was class, he for me is the best attacking midfielder in terms of pressing and jumping back in midfield to win the ball back," he told the BBC.
The Portsmouth born midfielder will take considerable confidence from Lampard's praise as he hopes to announce himself on the international stage this summer.
"We was brilliant for the first 20 minutes, but the sun kicked in and we got a bit tired and they have a bit of a ball", he said after the game.
"But thats natural because the players they have they are going to dominate some of the ball, and we had to allow that and just shuffle and block. The most important thing is we got the 3 points."
