Frank Lampard has finally landed on the key to Chelsea's success this season at Lille

Frank Lampard has failed to be able to use one of the biggest weapons in his Chelsea team.

N'Golo Kante is yet to play two matches in a row due to various injuries, and it has meant the Blues have been without a huge asset.

Whenever the 28-year-old has featured this season, just five times in all competitions, it is like he has never really been away.

The World Cup winner managed to come through a hamstring injury to start against Lille, and his impact was truly felt in the 2-1 win on Wednesday night in the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

His figures, as you would expect, surpassed plenty of his team-mates throughout the 90 minutes.

Kante was the most accurate passer, with a 96% success rate from 77 attempts, with four successful dribbles to go with it.

The Frenchman's two interceptions was a joint game-high figure, while Jorginho and Kante won four tackles each.

Frank Lampard and the Chelsea players celebrate with the fans in Lille

While his figures are not a huge surprise, what Chelsea fans did see for the first time this season was a combination of Jorginho and Kante in the middle of the park as a two.

Lampard has changed his formation several times throughout the course of the campaign, with a mixture of 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 being the main tactics.

But with Kante's injury, there hasn't been a combination of Kante and Jorginho before this week.

It's a system that can certainly work and could be the long-term solution to moving forward in the future.

With Kante and Jorginho in the middle of the pitch, it was interesting to see the dynamic of how it could unfold down the line.

One thing that was obvious to see was how high Kante would play when the Blues were in possession and looking to attack.

It meant that when they lost the ball, there was one issue that Lille were able to counter attack into the space at times.

But the positive was that both Kante and Jorginho were in decent position to win the ball high up the field.

Jorginho and Kante could well be the future of Chelsea's midfield, but the key will be keeping the Frenchman fit.
