Frank Lampard handed warning over Chelsea wonderkids amid Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell links

Darren Bent says Frank Lampard will be under pressure to continue his use of young players after splashing the cash at Chelsea.

The Blues qualified for the Champions League with a young squad that saw Lampard utilising the club's youth system following their transfer ban last year.

Yet he is now able to flex Chelsea's muscle in the transfer market and has already brought in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

The Blues have also been linked with moves for the likes of Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Jan Oblak as Lampard looks to make the squad his own.

Speaking to talkSPORT, former England striker Bent argued that this put Lampard under a different type of pressure to what he has faced so far at Stamford Bridge.

"A lot of people this season have lauded Frank Lampard for the job he's done," he said.

"Obviously bringing through some of the youngsters, I think it's eight academy graduates, but maybe he was forced to do this.

"I think, at times, people have made a lot of excuses for him and said look at the job he's done when he's not been able to buy any players and had to use youth players.

"To be fair, he's given them an opportunity and they've taken it, but I do feel next season is going to be completely different.

"Are they going to go out and sign all these players and will these youth players get an opportunity next season?

"That's going to be pressure in itself as well, people will throw at him that he was forced to use the young players last season but where are their opportunities now?

"It is an open chequebook and they can now sign who they want but are these players still going to get the opportunities?"
