Mason Mount hailed after first Chelsea goal as Frank Lampard warns: 'It's the first of many'

Mason Mount could not hide his delight after scoring his first Chelsea goal in the 1-1 draw with Leicester City - and manager Frank Lampard warned there is more to come.

The 20-year-old showed grit and determination to steal possession from Wilfried Ndidi in the seventh minute and slot home underneath Kasper Schmeichel.

Ndidi would redeem himself later on, scoring the equaliser that denied Mount and new boss Frank Lampard a first win since taking over at Chelsea.

The England Under-21 international admitted scoring at Stamford Bridge was a dream of his, having been at the club for 14 years, but the playmaker underlined his disappointment that he couldn't celebrate with a win too.

"Coming through the academy and being at the club since the age of six, this was what I dreamed of," Mount told Sky Sports.

"Playing at home and scoring, both came at once for me. I got on the right side and nipped in there and got the ball. It was high-pressing, attacking football. I almost tripped over but managed to stay on my feet!

"In the next 70 minutes I don't think we were as good as in the first 20 minutes. It was a positive for me [to score] but as a team there is stuff we need to work on."

Lampard has consistently backed Mount to succeed at Stamford Bridge, defending the midfielder after he attracted criticism from former boss Jose Mourinho for his performance against Manchester United.

And the 41-year-old praised the young midfielder after getting off the mark for Chelsea, adding the best is yet to come from the prodigy.

"I am delighted for Mason," Lampard said. "It was a really good finish and at that point we were flying. He will be a bit disappointed because we have not got the three points.

"It is the first of many moments from Mason. I have absolute confidence in him."
