Frank Lampard gives verdict on Chelsea Champions League triumph

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has praised Thomas Tuchel for the Blues' Champions League triumph over Manchester City last month.

Lampard was appointed the Blues' boss in July 2019 after an impressive season with Derby County in the Championship, narrowly losing out on promotion after a play-off final loss to Aston Villa.

His managerial momentum continued during his debut campaign as Chelsea coach, helping guide the club to a top four finish in the Premier League despite a transfer ban which meant they couldn't replace the departing Eden Hazard.

However, his second year didn't go as smoothly as the Blues struggled for consistency and fell to eighth place in the league at the end of 2020.

This poor run of form culminated with Lampard losing his job in January with German coach Thomas Tuchel coming in to replace him at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel immediately hit the ground running in West London and his side finished fourth in the league while also clinching the Champions League trophy, something Lampard was impressed with.

"When you work towards something you want to be the manager, but I'm never going to try and lay claim to that", he told the BBC.

"I was part of the early foundation, Tomas did a wonderful job getting there.

"But first, I am a Chelsea person, and for the Chelsea fans, the club deserves that.

"Secondly, I'm happy for Reece and Mason and Chilwell who came in my time there, it makes me pretty proud. I love the job, I love the challenge of it and i would love to get back in."
