Frank Lampard gives definitive answer to Chelsea signing Angel Gomes from Manchester United

Frank Lampard has insisted there is no interest from Chelsea in picking up free agent Angel Gomes this summer.

The 19-year-old is set to leave Manchester United as his contract runs out with the club tomorrow.

Gomes has risen through the academy ranks at the Red Devils, but has made just two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, with another three starts in the Europa League.

United had been keen to sign Gomes to a new deal, which is move coming to an end in July.

Frank Lampard: They are going to be top players for this club

However, there has been a breakdown in negotiations and the youngster has rejected the last offer from Chelsea's Premier League rivals.

The Blues had been linked with snapping up the forward, however a move for him is not going to happen according to the head coach.

When asked if the Blues had made a move for Gomes, Lampard said: "No. I can elaborate to the point that it's never been mentioned at my end, so that's it.

Chelsea have already made moves in the transfer market, before the window has even officially been opened.

Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech will become Chelsea players tomorrow on their new contracts, and Lampard stated that they will be working on plans to train in the coming weeks.

“I am in the process of arranging that plan now," Lampard added.

"You are right, they do become our players. They are also in different positions in the fact that Hakim hasn’t played for a long time because the Dutch league situation and Timo finished at the weekend.

"We will formulate a plan for them that will look slightly different individually. We will decide in the meantime at Cobham in the training ground whether that means mixing with the squad or whether that means some physical work in the shorter term for themselves."
