Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly promised to give Frank Lampard time at Stamford Bridge.
The legendary former player is set to take over from Maurizio Sarri at the club where he scored over 200 goals.
But he will face a tricky situation with a two-window transfer ban placed upon them by Fifa leaving him unable to make his own signings.
According to The Telegraph , Lampard has been given assurances he will be given at least one season in charge to prove himself.
Derby County confirmed on Tuesday they have given Chelsea permission to speak to Lampard, who is expected to pen a three-year deal.
Chelsea are happy to pay the Championship club £4m compensation to land their man, just a couple of weeks after receiving £5m to let Sarri go to Juventus .
Lampard will have one new face to call upon, with Christian Pulisic arriving from Borussia Dortmund in a deal agreed back in January.
They will also have the chance to sign Mateo Kovacic on a permanent deal given he is already a registered Chelsea player.
The Croatian midfielder has been on loan from Real Madrid and the Blues have until July 1 to decide whether to keep him at the club.
Lampard also faces starting the season without youngsters Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek after they both suffered ruptured achilles at the end of the campaign.
He is facing a tough task after losing superstar Eden Hazard and takes over a side that Sarri guided to third in the Premier League as well as a Europa League triumph.
