Frank Lampard can see why Newcastle United have beat Spurs and Manchester United this season because Steve Bruce's side are 'organised' and carry 'a threat on the counter-attack'.
The Chelsea boss has a lot of respect for Bruce and was certainly not taking the Magpies for granted ahead of Saturday's game, expecting the visitors to be very determined to get a result.
Newcastle kept Chelsea out for 73 minutes before Marcos Alonso broke the deadlock and fired his side to a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
The result has sent Newcastle back into the relegation zone but Lampard was impressed by the black-and-whites' performance.
"Credit to Newcastle. You can see why they've got a couple of good results this year. Organised, men behind the ball, a threat on the counter-attack," he told reporters after the game.
"I think in the first half, albeit we created a couple of chances, we were a little bit safe, a little bit slow. We moved the ball side to side but not with enough urgency and probably not with enough risk to sometimes take people out of the game.
"That was the message at half-time and I thought second half, for the majority, that we did that. We created a lot. The combinations were good. We played between the lines more.
"People were getting one v one - Callum [Hudson-Odoi], Willian, particularly Christian [Pulisic] when he came on - and there should have been more goals. It would have made the last 10 minutes more comfortable."
