Frank Lampard has revealed that Tammy Abraham's extra mobility up front was the main factor behind his inclusion in the Chelsea starting XI to face West Ham.
Olivier Giroud has started Chelsea's last two Premier League fixtures before lockdown but makes way despite back-to-back wins for the Blues.
Abraham did come into the team for the Blues' FA Cup victory over Leicester City on Sunday but earns his first league start since the Premier League resumed.
Abraham's return to the team is one of six changes made by Lampard for a fourth game in 19 days, with Mason Mount also missing out in midfield for the first time.
It was a decision that Lampard hasn't taken lightly and he pinpointed a need to rest players, plus the extra pace Abraham offers in-behind as the main reason for his recall over Giroud.
“It’s not an easy call for me (switching strikers). They bring different attributes," he told Sky Sports before kick-off.
"I thought Tammy did well against Leicester, Oli’s been doing really well for us. I have to make changes in this period, because there’s games every three days and look at the opposition and the rest of our team.
"I hope with Tammy’s mobility and the work-rate he showed against Leicester, if he can re-produce that, he’ll give a lot to us.
On Manchester United's win against Brighton, he said: “We have to focus on ourselves. We’re also very aware of Man United and Wolves, the teams around us, Leicester.
"We always come back to ourselves. We’ve got ourselves in a fantastic position. This is the business end. Mentality is as key as anything.
"We know we have some quality in our team, but if we don’t get the small moments in a game right, absolute concentration, then we won’t get to where we want to be.”
